Project Scope
Plan the Road Base and Drainage Together
A new aggregate road, commercial entrance or ranch access route needs more than surface material. Subgrade preparation, soft-area repair, moisture conditioning and compaction may be part of the work, along with aggregate delivery, spreading and grading. Road crowns, shoulders, ditches and culverts should be reviewed with the intended access and traffic.
For an existing road, describe where the surface, base or drainage needs attention rather than requesting only another load of aggregate. Road maintenance and repair can be scoped separately from new construction, and parking or laydown areas can be included when they share the same access and material requirements.

Project Questions
Roads and Aggregate: Scope and Planning Questions
- Do you build new roads and repair existing ones?
- Both road construction and maintenance or repair are existing scopes, including ranch roads, commercial access roads and construction entrances. State whether the request is a new route or work on an existing surface.
- Can aggregate delivery and installation be included together?
- Aggregate delivery, placement, spreading, grading and compaction are available. Identify the material specification and the preparation work needed so a delivery-only request is distinct from a road-construction proposal.
- Excavation and grading — For earthwork and grade preparation before aggregate placement.
- Land clearing — For opening a new road alignment.
- Commercial sitework — For access, parking and laydown areas within a larger project.
